The Best Christmas Lights in Denver

Denver runs two seasons at once. The institutions go big: Zoo Lights, Blossoms of Light at the Botanic Gardens, the Trail of Lights at Chatfield Farms, and Christmas in Color out at Water World and Red Rocks. The residential side is where the metro really shows off. Highlands Ranch, Aurora, and Littleton are thick with homes running full synchronized shows, several of them elaborate enough to draw a line of cars. Below are the displays worth the drive this season, downtown and out.

Denver Christmas lights: FAQ

When do Christmas lights turn on in Denver?
Most displays light up around Thanksgiving and run nightly into early January, typically from dusk (about 4:45pm) until 9 to 10pm. Zoo Lights, Blossoms of Light, and the Christmas in Color drive-thrus publish exact dates and sell timed-entry tickets.
What are the synchronized “dancing lights” homes?
A lot of Denver-area homes program their lights to music broadcast on a low-power FM channel. Park out front, tune your car radio to the station posted at the display, and watch from the car. Several collect donations for local charities.
Which Denver Christmas lights are free?
Every home display and decorated street, plus the Mile High Tree, the Parade of Lights, and the downtown drone show. Zoo Lights, Blossoms of Light, Chatfield Farms, Hudson Holidays, Elitch Holidays, and Christmas in Color are ticketed.
How should I visit a private home display?
Most of the big residential shows sit on cul-de-sacs, where cars stack up quickly. Pull in slowly, watch for kids crossing between vehicles, keep your headlights and music down, and leave driveways clear while you wait your turn.
