The Best Christmas Lights in Houston

Houston’s lights spread out as far as the city does. The ticketed shows anchor it: The Light Park, Galaxy Lights at Space Center Houston, Zoo Lights, and Radiant Nature at the Botanic Garden. But the tradition here is neighborhood-scale, with whole subdivisions in Katy, Pearland, Sugar Land, and The Woodlands decorating together and drawing slow lines of cars for weeks. Below are the displays worth the drive this season, from inside the Loop out to the far suburbs.

Houston Christmas lights: FAQ

When do Christmas lights turn on in Houston?
Most displays light up around mid-November and run nightly through the end of December or early January, typically from dusk (about 5:30pm) until 10pm. The Light Park, Galaxy Lights, and Zoo Lights publish exact dates and sell timed-entry tickets.
Which Houston Christmas lights are free?
Every decorated neighborhood and home display, plus the downtown and town-square displays. The Light Park, Galaxy Lights, Zoo Lights, Radiant Nature, Sugar Land Holiday Lights, and the Marriott Marquis show are ticketed.
What are the decorated neighborhoods?
Whole subdivisions here decorate as a group rather than one house at a time, and the streets fill with cars moving at walking pace. Go on a weeknight if you can, keep your headlights low, and expect the route to take longer than the map says.
How should I visit a private home display?
Subdivision routes move at walking pace and residents still need to get home, so leave driveways clear and let cars out. Keep your music down, watch for kids between parked cars, and take your trash with you. Weeknights are easier on everyone.
